Constipation is a common condition for all ages. 1 in 7 adults are affected.
It is normal to open your bowels once a day. When we poo less than 3 times a week and find it difficult to expel from the body it is known as constipation.
Some people rely on laxatives. In 2015 £101 million was spent on prescription laxatives (Coloplast).
Let’s have a look at some natural ways to reduce constipation:
– Regular exercise
– Drink plenty of water
– Diet: processed and fatty foods contain very little fibre and nourishment. Try to consume more fresh vegetables, whole grains, beans and fruit.
– Emotional stress: unexpressed emotions or “holding on” over long periods can reflect physically on your bowels, especially grief, frustration and anger. Freeing up mentally can free you up physically.
In addition research has found that acupuncture can help with both acute and chronic constipation. Acupuncture is a safe and holistic treatment, that promotes your body to naturally heal yourself.
