ABC Acupuncture – L is for Labyrinthitis

Some studies have found that acupuncture can effectively treat labyrinthitis and related symptoms such as nausea and dizziness.

Labyrinthitis in simple terms is inflammation of the labyrinth (a small structure of the inner ear), it is also the most common cause of prolonged spontaneous vertigo.

Nausea, vomiting, and severe ‘room spinning’ vertigo are the most common symptoms of labyrinthitis. Some less common symptoms can also include tinnitus, deafness and feeling you are moving when you are standing still.

Very often labyrinthitis can occur when a client is rundown, overworked and/or stressed. Excessive stress, not getting enough sleep, irregular diet, or ongoing illness are all factors that can put a strain on a person’s body, mind and spirit.

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese modality that involves inserting small, sterile needles into specific points on the body to stimulate energy flow to improve health and wellbeing. In Chinese medicine dizziness is called Xuan Yun. Xuan means blurred vision and Yun means dizziness. Many studies have proven that acupuncture is an effective treatment for symptoms of labyrinthitis such as dizziness and nausea.

Acupuncture can address the underlying cause by stimulating the body’s healing mechanisms to reduce inflammation, improve blood circulation and reduce muscle tension. At Wirral Acupuncture, I have witnessed clients improve and recover after a course of acupuncture.

Greasy food, dairy products or irregular eating can weaken your digestive organs (according to Chinese Medicine). When this happens, there is a deficiency of the body’s essential energy Qi and dizziness can occur.
